Former MLB star Gary Sheffield has seen Tim Tebow hit in the batting cages and believes the ex-quarterback has the talent to play MLB, he tweeted Tuesday.
Sheffield’s statement comes after the news that Tebow’s agents told Adam Schefter that he is currently attempting to play professional baseball.
Tebow plans to hold workouts for all 30 MLB teams next month and has already received support from former MLB catcher Chad Moeller and Brodie Van Wagenen, the co-head of CAA Baseball.
Tebow last played competitive baseball as a junior in high school, hitting .494 that season.
The 28-year-old struggled in three seasons with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets after being taken in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft.
He last was on an NFL roster with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, but was cut before the regular season.
