Vikings’ Adrian Peterson to undergo MRI after leaving game with knee injury
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson left Sunday night's game against the Green Bay Packers in the third quarter with a knee injury and did not return.
Late in the quarter, Peterson was rushing to the left when his right ankle became caught under a defender. His leg appeared to twist, causing him to go down in pain.
Peterson was helped off the field and into the locker room, putting no weight on his right leg.
According to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, Peterson has some ligament damage in the knee and an MRI set for Monday will determine the severity of the injury.
"He might miss a week. I don't know if he will or not," Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer said. "Whatever it was has calmed down now, so we'll see."
The 31 year old had 12 carries for 19 yards, adding seven yards on two catches before leaving. The Vikings went up 17–7 moments later on a touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs and went on to win the game 17–14.
Peterson, a seven-time Pro Bowler, was off to a slow start to the season, rushing 31 times for 50 yards and zero touchdowns.
Minnesota (2–0) plays the Panthers (1–1) in North Carolina on Sunday.
