Dolphins name Ryan Fitzpatrick Starting QB vs. Bills, Josh Rosen Benched

Ryan Fitzpatrick takes over for Josh Rosen as the Dolphins quarterback in their loss against the Redskins

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores told reporters that veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will start on Sunday against the Bills.

“We’re going to start Fitz this week,” Flores said. “Kind of came to that conclusion over the last couple of days. We feel that was the best thing for this team and it’ll give us the best opportunity for this team to go up into a tough environment and try to pull out a win. And we do that on a weekly basis. What’s the best grouping, set of players, offense, defense, kicking game, to help try to win the game? We felt that was the case this week.”

The Dolphins benched Josh Rosen during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 17–3 loss to the Redskins. Rosen finished the day with 15 of 25 passes completed for 85 yards and two interceptions. Fitzpatrick closed out the game with 12 of 18 passes completed for 132 yards and one touchdown, leading two touchdown drives in a comeback attempt that fell just short.

Fitzpatrick started the season as the Dolphins' starting quarterback before Rosen replaced him in Week 3 against the Cowboys.
