Patrick Mahomes Shouts Out Jalen Hurts’s ‘Special’ Super Bowl Performance

While all the lights shined on Patrick Mahomes following his phenomenal performance in leading the Chiefs in a come-from-behind 38–35 victory against the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, the game’s Most Valuable Player didn’t shy away from praising Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for his play.

Hurts threw for 304 yards and one passing touchdown while rushing for three scores and totaling 70 yards on 15 carries. Despite the Eagles’ loss, Mahomes believes that Hurts should no longer have doubters in his ability to be an elite NFL quarterback.

“If there were any doubters left there shouldn’t be now. The way he [Hurts] stepped on this stage, and ran, threw the ball, whatever it took for his team to win,” Mahomes said after the game. “. . . I don’t want it to get lost in the loss that they had.

“I mean, even whenever we got all the momentum in that game, and we went up eight points in the fourth quarter, for him to respond and move his team down the football field and run in himself in a two-point conversion, it was a special performance by him and I mean, you make sure you appreciate that when you look back on this game.”

Hurts, in three seasons in Philadelphia, has recorded a 23–11 mark in the regular season in 34 starts while throwing for 7,906 yards and 44 touchdowns. The Eagles finished the 2022 season 14–3 following the loss in the Super Bowl.
