Jets to Host Free Agent QB Derek Carr Over Weekend, per Report
Free agent Derek Carr is expected to visit with the Jets this weekend, making it his second visit of the offseason, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports.
Last week, Carr visited with the Saints when Las Vegas and New Orleans hade a trade framework in place, but Carr decided not to waive his no-trade clause. Therefore, Carr was officially released by the Raiders on Tuesday ahead of February 15, which is when his 2023 salary would have become fully guaranteed.
While the Saints remain a strong possibility, Carr now has more control over this process and can sign with any team at any time. The Jets have been open about their desire to upgrade at quarterback this year, as second-year starter Zach Wilson disappointed in 2022. Last season, New York missed the playoffs for the 12th straight campaign.
According to SI’s Albert Breer, the Saints and the Jets were the only two teams to contact the Raiders about a trade before Las Vegas released Carr.
QB Derek Carr will visit the Jets this weekend, per source. The Saints and Jets were the only two teams that reached out to the Raiders on Carr, prior to Carr being cut. NO got to host Carr last week, after agreeing to trade parameters with LV.
