Derek Carr Leaning Toward Signing With Jets, per Report

As Derek Carr continues to weigh his options regarding his next team, one squad appears to be separating itself from the others.

Carr is slightly leaning toward the Jets as his team of choice, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Both the Saints and Panthers continue to talk with the quarterback about possibly signing him as well. The Jets are also interested in Aaron Rodgers should he be made available via trade, making it a complicated situation.

According to an NFL Network report, Carr met with all three teams in person during the combine this past week. Before that, he had already met with both New York and New Orleans—with both teams showing interest. The Jets reportedly went as far as to say that they believe Carr would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer if he joined New York.

The one variable to all this is Rodgers still hasn’t made a decision if he’s going to play again next season. Even if he does, he may decide to waive his no-trade clause to look for a new home and the Jets would be a prime candidate.

Carr was benched to close the season and it eventually became apparent that he and the Raiders would part ways. He was released by Las Vegas last month after deciding he would not waive his no-trade clause, leading to his free agency tour. The 31-year-old passed for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and threw 14 interceptions in his 15 games for the Raiders in 2022.
