Colin Kaepernick Was Asked Whether He’s Still Interested in Playing in NFL

In the years since Colin Kaepernick last played in the NFL, the former star quarterback has found great success in the worlds of business and entertainment. But, while he continues to make strides outside of football, the 35-year-old recently expressed he still maintains a desire to one day return to the sport.

The ex-49ers QB shared his thoughts on playing again in a CBS interview promoting his book, Colin Kaepernick: Change the Game, and an upcoming Netflix documentary covering the protest that led to his ouster from the NFL. During the conversation, Kaepernick divulged he believes he still has a “passion” for the game while discussing how he stays in shape for a possible return.

“Five, six days a week I’m still up at 4:30 [a.m.], I go get my training in,” he said. “Yeah, that passion is still there, and the ability is still there.”

When asked if he’s talked to any teams, Kaepernick revealed both he and his team “reach out to all 32 teams every year, throughout the year” to gauge their interest. To date, Kaepernick hasn’t secured an opportunity to prove he can still play.

“My biggest thing is, just let me get on the field,” Kaepernick said. “If I’m not good enough, cut me but give me the chance to show you what I can do.”

While Kaepernick still has eyes on a return to the NFL, it remains to be seen if any club will take a chance on him. Until then, Kaepernick said he intends to continue down his current path, in spite of the adversity.

“Very similar to the messaging of the book is, I don’t have control over all these situations, but I control how I respond to it. I control how I prepare for it. I’m a believer in doing that, good things will happen,” he said.
