Wisconsin Governor: Ready for Aaron Rodgers ‘Soap Opera’ to End

The chief executive has been in office for two of the Packers quarterback’s four MVP seasons.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s Wednesday afternoon declaration of his intent to join the Jets on The Pat McAfee Show brought a bittersweet feeling to many Wisconsinites—including the holder of the highest office in the state.

Asked about Rodgers’s machinations Wednesday afternoon, Wisconsin governor Tony Evers expressed relief that Rodgers had revealed his preference for the 2023 NFL season while also noting the future Hall of Famer’s successes in Green Bay.

“It’s been kind of a soap opera, and I’d like to see soap operas come to an end. So this is good,” Evers said of Rodgers’s decision. “God bless him, though, he was good for many, many years here, and he wants to move on, and the team wants to go in a different direction.”

Evers has served as the Badger State’s governor since January 2019. Since he took office, Rodgers has won two of his four NFL MVP awards, in ’20 and ’21.

“At least we know that it’s done,” Evers added. “We can focus on other things and focus on getting the Packers’ new quarterback in a better position.”

Now, the Packers and Jets just need to complete the trade and make Rodgers’s move to New York official.
