Ex-Eagles RB Miles Sanders Laments Super Bowl Usage After Panthers Signing

After four seasons with the Eagles, Miles Sanders left Philadelphia to sign with the Panthers in the offseason. That is despite a career year in 2022, surpassing 1,000 yards rushing for the first time with a career-high 11 touchdowns.

Although he led the team in rushing, Sanders only got seven carries for 16 yards in the Super Bowl, both of which were season lows. The running back explained that he was upset with how things went down in his final game as an Eagle.

“Last game of the season? For all of the marbles? Everybody can answer that question,” Sanders said, via Steve Reed of the Associated Press. “If they put themselves in my shoes, would they be happy? I don’t want to make headlines, [but] if it does, I don’t care.”

However, Sanders still insists that his lack of usage in that game was not the reason he left Philadelphia, implying that it was more the Eagles’ decision.

“Maybe you should ask them why I’m moving here,” he said.

Now in Carolina, Sanders is expected to carry the load as coach Frank Reich called him a “three-down back.” The running back is entering year one of a four-year, $25 million deal, while the Eagles opted to sign Rashaad Penny on a four-year, $10 million contract instead.

So far, Sanders explained that he is thrilled with his new situation.

“I’m in a great mood every day,” Sanders said. “I’m loving who I’m practicing with and who I’m going to war with. And the coaching staff we have is tremendous. They have a lot of experience and knowledge.”
