Ray Lewis III, Eldest Son of NFL Legend Ray Lewis, Dies at 28
Ray Lewis III, the oldest son of NFL legend and Ravens great Ray Lewis, died this week at the age of 28, according to multiple sources.
News of Lewis III’s death was first reported Thursday by TMZ, and confirmed on social media by Rahsaan Lewis, the second oldest of Lewis’s three sons. Rahsaan, a wide receiver at Kentucky who recently concluded his senior season, shared a heartfelt message while announcing the news in a post on his Instagram Story.
“Really can’t believe I’m even typing this but RIP big brother 🕊️ , A true angel I pray your [sic] at peace now” Lewis wrote in part, via CBS News.
The details surrounding Lewis’s death remain unknown at this time.
A native of Longwood, Fla., Lewis III first made waves in the sport his famous father dominated as a star running back at Florida’s Lake Mary Prep High School.
After tallying 2,574 yards from scrimmage and 24 total touchdowns as a senior, Lewis committed as a defensive back to play for Miami, his dad’s alma mater, in 2013. However, Lewis did not see playing time with the Hurricanes in two years and went on to finish his collegiate career as a transfer at Coastal Carolina and Virginia Union.
Lewis would face charges of criminal sexual conduct while at Coastal Carolina following the 2016 season but the charges were later dropped. He transferred to VU in 2017 and tallied 37 tackles in nine games in his final college season.
Most recently, Lewis spent time with the Wyoming Mustangs of the Champions Indoor Football League, where he played from 2021 to ’22. He was also pursuing a career in the music industry, per TMZ.
