Ray Lewis III, Son of Ray Lewis, Received Narcan Before His Death, Police Say

An officer for the Casselberry Police Department gave Ray Lewis III—the oldest son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis—Narcan after the 28-year-old was found not breathing at a home in Casselberry, Fla. prior to his death on Wednesday.

According to a police report obtained by the Orlando Sentinel, officers arrived on the scene at 5:34 p.m. ET and noticed that Lewis was unresponsive. As police attempted to conduct CPR on Lewis, one of Lewis’s friends inside the home yelled “he needs Narcan.”

Michael Schaefer, captain of the Casselberry Police Department, wrote in a statement that one of the department’s officers “used his issued NARCAN on Lewis but there was no change to his condition,” according to the Sentinel. At the scene, officers also found a plastic bag in a beer can, a used needle and what appeared to be an anti-anxiety pill, per the report.

The Seminole County Fire Department transported Lewis III to Advent Health Hospital in Altamonte Springs, where he later died. Reports of the 28-year-old’s death were initially reported by TMZ on Thursday before Rahsaan Lewis—the second oldest of Lewis’s three sons—confirmed the news in heartfelt message on his Instagram story.

“Really can’t believe I’m even typing this but RIP big brother 🕊️ , A true angel I pray your [sic] at peace now” Lewis wrote in part, per CBS News.

Lewis III first gained significant recognition as a star running back at Lake Mary Prep High School in Florida. After a stellar senior campaign, he followed in his father’s footsteps and committed to Miami as a defensive back.

However, when Lewis did not earn playing time in two seasons for the Hurricanes, he went on to finish his college football career at Coastal Carolina and Virginia Union. As a member of the Chanticleers’ program, he faced charges of criminal sexual conduct after the 2016 season. Those charges were later dismissed. 

From there, Lewis transferred to VU for his final college season, where he registered a total of 37 tackles. Most recently, Lewis played for the Wyoming Mustangs in the Champions Indoor Football League from 2021 to ‘22.
