Bill Romanowski Sued for Tax Evasion, per Report

Bill Romanowski, a former NFL linebacker who won four Super Bowls as a member of the 49ers and Broncos, is reportedly being sued by the United States for tax evasion.

According to The Athletic, Romanowski and his wife Julie owe in excess of $15 million in unpaid taxes, dating all the way back to 1998.

The lawsuit alleges that the Romanowskis were ordered by two tax courts to pay an unspecified sum back in 2013, but have allegedly failed to make those payments. Due to interest and statutory penalties, the pair now owe a reported $15.33 million, according to the Department of Justice.

“Despite timely notice and demand for payment, the Romanowskis have neglected, refused or failed to pay the assessments against them,” the complaint states.

The couple also is accused of using funds from their nutrition business, N53, to cover personal living expenses, including rent, hair, nail and spa appointments, plastic surgery, groceries and more.

Romanowski spent 16 years in the NFL, making two Pro Bowls in his career which spanned from 1988–2003. He spent six seasons with both the 49ers and Broncos, winning Super Bowls in 1988 and 1999 with San Francisco and 1997 and 1998 with Denver. He also spent two seasons with both the Raiders and Eagles.

He featured in a total of 243 games in the pros, registering 39.5 sacks, 1,118 tackles, and 16 forced fumbles.
