Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Makes Pledge After Leading NFL in Interceptions
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has a big goal for the 2023 season after he led the NFL with 15 interceptions last year.
When speaking about this unfortunate statistic from the 2022 season, Prescott told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that this year will be different, because coach Mike McCarthy is poised to call plays after the departure of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
“Some of it is the offense and them understanding exactly where we are,” Prescott said. “Mike does an amazing job with those guys. They know where to be, why to be, when they’re getting looked at. That’s going to be a big jump. I won’t have 10 interceptions this year.”
In Prescott’s seven-year career, he’s only had two full seasons in which he hasn’t hit double digits with interceptions, and those came in his rookie year of 2016 (four) and in 2018 (eight). In 2020, when he only played in five games, he threw four interceptions.
Prescott also went on to explain that he’s not solely to blame for all those interceptions last year, owing to some drops by wide receivers.
“I know who I am, and you can go back and take away half of those off drops,” Prescott said. “I’m not saying it’s on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those, nobody is talking about it.”
Only four interceptions out of the 15 were recorded as drops by the receiver, according to NFL.com.
Prescott will have a new star receiver this year after Brandin Cooks was acquired in March. The Cowboys also bring back CeeDee Lamb, who finished sixth in the league with 1,359 receiving yards in ’22.
