Packers Sign QB Alex McGough, 2023 USFL MVP, per Report

The Packers are reportedly adding to their quarterback room ahead of training camp, and they’re picking up a recent MVP winner in order to do so.

According to Bill Huber of Packer Central, Green Bay is signing quarterback Alex McGough following a strong season in the USFL. McGough was named league MVP and lead his team, the Birmingham Stallions, to a USFL championship.

McGough worked out for the team on Tuesday and reportedly signed a contract later that day. A corresponding roster move has not yet been announced.

His stint with the Packers won’t be his first in the NFL. McGough was a seventh-round draft pick by the Seahawks in 2018 out of Florida International University, though he never featured in a regular-season game.

Across four seasons at FIU, McGough threw 65 touchdowns and 37 interceptions while completing 60.7% of his pass attempts.

The 27-year-old join a Packers quarterbacks room consisting of newly-promoted starter Jordan Love as well as backups Sean Clifford and Danny Etling. The report indicated that neither Clifford nor Etling were expected to be released amid the addition of McGough.
