Ravens, Melvin Gordon Agree on One-Year Contract
The Ravens are poised to sign running back Melvin Gordon to a one-year deal worth up to $3.1 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The team subsequently confirmed the agreement, pending a physical exam.
Gordon is a former first-round pick out of Wisconsin who was selected to two Pro Bowls in five seasons with the Chargers, despite only surpassing 1,000 yards rushing once. In 2020, Gordon joined the Broncos, and he rushed for over 900 yards twice before the team released him in the middle of the 2022 season.
Gordon subsequently joined the Chiefs’ practice squad but never appeared in a game for the team. As a free agent this offseason, the veteran lamented the state of the running back market, saying it is the “worst position to play in the NFL right now.”
Baltimore adds Gordon to a running back room that includes J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. Last year, those three players combined to rush for over 1,000 yards, but none of them totaled more than 520 yards rushing individually. Quarterback Lamar Jackson led the Ravens with 764 rushing yards in 2022.
