Davante Adams: Raiders Need Josh Jacobs to Reach ‘Elite Aspirations’
The Raiders and running back Josh Jacobs could not agree on a contract by the extension deadline for franchise-tagged players, which means the running back is set to sit out training camp. Jacobs still hasn’t signed the $10.91 million tender, Jacobs cannot be fined for not showing up to training camp.
Jacobs led the league in rushing last season with 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. Wide receiver Davante Adams recently spoke about the situation said that the team needs Jacobs if they want to compete for a championship.
“If we really want to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and having all the elite aspirations that we do, we're gonna need that guy,” Adams said, via NFL.com. “So I’m praying that we can still figure something out, but also understanding where Josh is coming from and trying to coach him through it at the same time.”
Last year, the Raiders finished the season in third place in the AFC West with a 6-11 record. Since then, Las Vegas has changed quarterbacks, adding Jimmy Garoppolo and subtracting Derek Carr, as they try to surpass the Chiefs and Chargers in the division.
Adams has been through intense contract negotiations before, so he has been advising Jacobs along the way. Therefore, he understands that the two sides can move forward after getting something done.
“It’s something that you never even want to get to, but once you get through it you can kinda just put it to bed and everyone can carry on with their business,” Adams said. “So I’m hoping that's what happens so we can just kind of put everything behind us and just start focusing on what’s to come.”
