Vikings’ Jordan Addison Says He Was Driving at 140 MPH for Pet Emergency, per Report
On the heels of Vikings receiver Jordan Addison receiving a citation for reckless driving, new information came to light Monday regarding an explanation of the events leading up to the Thursday incident.
Addison, the No. 23 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, was stopped by Minnesota State Patrol just outside St. Paul, Minn. last week for driving 140 mph in a 55-mph zone. With questions still swirling around the violation, a citation filed Monday with the Ramsey County District Court in St. Paul described the reason for Addison’s excessive speed as his response to learning of an emergency involving his pet dog.
The citation, per a report from ESPN, stated Addison told officers “his dog was having an emergency at his residence and that was the reason for his speed.” The citation also reportedly noted the 21-year-old rookie received misdemeanor charges of speeding and reckless driving.
Monday’s update comes just three days after Addison issued an apology for his actions, though his statement did not include any mention of an emergency.
“Yesterday morning I made a mistake and used poor judgment. I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry,” the statement read, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
Slated to play a pivotal role for the Vikings this upcoming season, Addison continued his preparation for his first NFL season on Sunday after reporting for the start of training camp along with the rest of the club’s rookie class.
