Aaron Rodgers Speculates on Future With Jets Beyond 2023
With just over six weeks until he makes his much-anticipated Jets debut, quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke about his future with the team, letting the football world know that they should get used to seeing the four-time MVP in his new shade of green.
“I’m having a blast,” Rodgers said of his training camp with his new team, per Jets reporter Ethan Greenberg. “I don’t see this as a one year-and-done thing.”
It’s just the latest in what’s become a consistent theme with Rodgers in regards to his New York future. Last week, he said it would be a “disservice” to only play one season for the team after the Jets traded a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that could become a first-round selection, in addition to a first-round pick swap in ’23.
“The Jets gave up a lot for me, so to play just one year would be a disservice,” Rodgers said at the time. “Now if that one year turns out to be a magical year, who knows?”
Rodgers, who turns 40 in December, is entering his 19th NFL season. He hasn’t missed a game since 2017, though he saw his production slip last year after back-to-back MVP campaigns the previous two seasons. In his final campaign with Green Bay, Rodgers threw for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. His 91.1 passer rating was his lowest since becoming a starting quarterback.
Whether or not Rodgers sticks around past this year will depend on a variety of factors, namely his production and the team’s success. He also pointed to alterations he’s made to his health regime that make him confident in his ability to stick around beyond 2023.
“It’s how my body feels,” Rodgers said. “I’ve made some changes this offseason, some training and diet. … Talk to me in three or four months. We’ll see how it feels. But the way I feel now, I feel like I can play a number of years.”
