Cardinals RB Marlon Mack Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Injury

Cardinals running back Marlon Mack tore his Achilles and will miss the entire 2023 NFL season after recently signing with Arizona just five days ago, coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters on Wednesday.

Mack worked out with the franchise last week prior to signing and also played in the Cardinals’ Red and White practice, despite receiving a limited number of snaps. The former fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft suffered the injury on Tuesday during the team’s seven-on-seven drills.

When looking at Arizona’s depth at running back, Mack was likely going to be the franchise’s No. 2 running back after James Conner. However, due to his injury, the Cardinals will now rely on Keaontay Ingram and Corey Clement to serve as Conner’s backup.

Mack spent the first five of his six NFL seasons with the Colts. In Indianapolis, he notched one 1,000-yard plus rushing campaign in ’19. Since then, Mack has been limited to 211 yards in 15 games over the last three seasons split between the Colts, 49ers and Broncos.

Part of Mack's stifled production was due to him tearing his Achilles in the first game of the 2020 campaign against the Jaguars, forcing him to miss the entire season.

The Cardinals will begin preseason play on Friday against the Broncos.
