Former Seahawks, Ravens Running Back Alex Collins Dies at 28
Former NFL running back Alex Collins has died, according to Monday evening announcements from the Ravens and Seahawks. He was 28.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced that Collins died in a motorcycle accident that occurred in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sunday night. Authorities were called, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baltimore and Seattle both publicly mourned Collins, who spent 2016 and ’20–21 with the Seahawks and ’17–18 with the Ravens. Collins played for the USFL’s Memphis Showboats this past season.
In his five-year NFL career, he ran for 1,997 yards and 18 touchdowns to go with 467 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
Collins played collegiately for Arkansas, for whom he ran for 3,703 yards in three seasons—second in school history behind Darren McFadden and the 18th-highest total in the history of the SEC.
He may be best remembered among college football fans for his role in one of the wildest plays in Razorbacks history—a fourth-and-25 attempt against Ole Miss in 2015 in which Collins caught a desperate lateral from tight end Hunter Henry and rumbled 31 yards for a game-saving first down.
"May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life," Baltimore said in its statement.
