Death of Former NFL Player Sergio Brown’s Mom Ruled Homicide; Brown Still Missing

Former NFL player Sergio Brown is missing following the death of his mother over the weekend.

The Maywood Police Department reported that the body of Brown’s mother, Myrtle Brown, was found in a creek on Saturday nearby her home in the suburbs of Chicago. 

Her body was discovered after authorities were alerted by relatives that they’d been unable to contact her or her son, said the department, via CNN

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that she died as a result of injuries related to an assault. The manner of her death was ruled as a homicide.

On Sunday, Brown’s brother, Nick Brown, posted on Instagram, asking for help in locating his brother. 

“My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home,” wrote Nick in his post on Instagram.

“People, please don’t approach the property, this is still an ongoing investigation by the Maywood Police Department. If you have any information on Sergio's whereabouts please send them to the Maywood Police Department.”

Sergio Brown played seven years in the NFL as a defensive back from 2010-‘16. He played three seasons with the Colts, two with the Patriots, and one with the Bills and Jaguars.

He featured in 94 games in his career, recording one interception, 2.5 sacks, and 144 tackles. Brown played college football at Notre Dame from 2006-‘09.
