Bears’ Justin Fields, Coach Troll Critics With Hug at Thursday’s Practice

The quote du jour in the NFL this week belonged to Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

On the heels of a rough performance in Chicago’s 27–17 loss to the Buccaneers Sunday, Fields seemingly criticized the Bears’ approach to coaching him.

“They’re doing their job when they’re giving me what to look at, stuff like that,” he said Wednesday. “But at the end of the day, I can’t be thinking about that when the game comes.”

Fields took great pains to walk back his comments, stressing that he would “never... blame anything on the coaches,” nor his teammates.

On Thursday, he humorously put his money where his mouth was.

In the portion of Chicago’s practice able to be filmed, Fields motioned for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to come and hug him—which he did, smiling while Fields waved to the cameras.

Getsy is in his second year as the Bears’ offensive coordinator after Chicago hired him away from the Packers in Jan. 2022.

In desperate need of a win, the Bears will visit the world champion Chiefs Sunday afternoon, looking to avoid an 0–3 start.
