Dolphins WR Disappointed Miami Didn’t Set NFL Points Record: ‘Let’s Just Go Get 100’
The Dolphins nearly dialed up a new NFL record for most points scored in a game during their 70-20 victory against the Broncos on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.
In Miami’s lopsided victory, coach Mike McDaniel chose for his team to not eclipse the league’s scoring record of 73 points set by Chicago in 1940. (Washington’s 72-point performance against the Giants in 1966 is the record for the Super Bowl era.)
However, when Dolphins backup running back De’Von Achane burst through Denver’s defense for a 67-yard touchdown and the team’s final score of the contest, there was still nearly 8:00 remaining in regulation.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters that Miami was not seeking to “humiliate” Denver following the win. However, Dolphins receiver Robbie Chosen felt differently from his signal caller, saying that the team should have broken the scoring record in Sunday’s battle.
“Once we got to 70, I said let’s just go get 100," Chosen said. "It was like a lot of time left too so I was like let’s just go get 100, you know that’s how I was feeling."
The veteran wideout finished the game with one reception for 68 yards and a touchdown for a Miami offensive unit that pummeled Denver with a total of 726 yards, a new franchise record. The Dolphins also set a new team high for most points in a game, a mark that previously stood at 56 prior to Sunday’s outing.
