Jets’ Garrett Wilson Hopes to Make Joe Namath ‘Eat His Words’ Over Zach Wilson Criticism

While appearing on ESPN New York’s Bart & Hahn Show on Tuesday, Jets star wideout Garrett Wilson fired back at Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath’s criticisms of Zach Wilson.

During the appearance, the standout wide receiver was asked about the best player in Jets franchise history publicly bashing the play of Wilson. The 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year came to the defense of his much-maligned starting quarterback and hopes his teammates use Namath’s take as "ammunition" to prove the doubters wrong.

“We love Joe…but I hope we find a way to use that as ammunition. And one day, that Joe Namath can admit that he was wrong,” Wilson said.

On Monday, Namath called Zach Wilson’s performance against New England in Week 3 “awful” and “disgusting,” while suggesting the club trade the former 2021 No. 2 overall pick.

While recognizing that people are entitled to their own opinions, Garrett Wilson hopes his team can find a way to make the former Super Bowl III champion “eat his words.”

“Hopefully we can make him eat his words,” the received added. “That’s what it comes down to and he has the right to have an opinion. I got people that say that about me, I am sure, and that is the reality of the game we play, people are going to have opinions. Like I have said we love Joe Namath and we love Zach too. We are confident in Zach.”

Zach Wilson, who ranks statistically as one of the worst quarterbacks in nearly every passing category since entering the league, sports a dismal 8–14 record in three seasons with the Jets.
