Brian Daboll Explains Costly Miscommunication With Tyrod Taylor at End of First Half vs. Bills
The Giants' disastrous clock management cost them the opportunity to extend their lead before the end of the first half on Sunday against the Bills.
After the 14–9 loss, head coach Brian Daboll explained the miscommunication with quarterback Tyrod Taylor that resulted in the team falling short of the end zone as time expired in the first half.
The Giants head coach attempted to set the record straight, indicating that Taylor audibled to a run rather than throw the ball as he had intended.
“Had a play called. A run-action pass play. And ended up alerting it to a run. Didn’t get it off," said Daboll.
On the play, Taylor handed the ball off to Saquon Barkley with 14 seconds left on the clock and no timeouts left. Barkley reached the 1-yard line, but New York was unable to get the ball back to the line for a quick spike, costing the team the chance to kick a field goal and extend their lead.
Daboll looked utterly perplexed on the sideline after the play, and he and Taylor could be seen discussing the sequence of events while they walked to the locker room. The failed call ended up costing New York dearly in what would end up as a five-point loss.
