Jonathan Allen Says He Thinks About Leaving Commanders Amid Struggles
The Commanders lost their fourth straight game to the Dolphins in Week 13, as they were defeated 45—15 in a rout at FedEx Field. The struggles appear to be getting to one of their best players.
Two-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Allen, who was short, sweet and to the point in his postgame comments to the media, made his weekly appearance on 106.7 The Fan on Monday and opened up about the effect the Commanders' losing is having on him.
When asked if he ever thinks about leaving the organization, Allen replied that he “1000%” does, per Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan.
Allen didn’t mince words, saying that he “would love to win” with Washington, but clarifying that he wants to win “first and foremost.” It’s a similar message to the one delivered by the former first-round pick in his postgame availability on Sunday, when he said he was “tired of trying to build character.”
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. I play this game to win and I would love to win here for sure but I want to win first and foremost,” Allen said on The Sports Junkies show. “So that’s always going to be at the front and center of my mind and everything I’m going to be doing in my career is going to make sure I’ll have an opportunity to win.”
Allen said he wanted to make it clear he wasn’t leaving. But he also made it clear that he won’t tolerate a rebuild. Unfortunately, that’s where the Commanders, who had something of a fire sale at the trade deadline and could have a new coach in 2024, are trending towards.
