Jets Told Zach Wilson He Will Be Traded During Offseason, per Report
The New York Jets are expected to trade quarterback Zach Wilson this offseason, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. The team informed him of its plan when he was benched, leading to his reported reluctance to take back the starting job weeks ago.
Wilson was benched several times throughout the year, but Russini is likely referring to the signal-caller losing the starting job after the team’s Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Jets went on to lose the next two games and Wilson returned to his starting spot for the team’s Week 14 bout against the Houston Texans on Dec. 10. But it was reported that Wilson was reluctant to do so, leading to both he and Jets coach Robert Saleh denying the report, with Wilson calling it “frustrating.”
If Wilson is, in fact, done in New York, he will be remembered as one of the worst draft picks in NFL history. With hopes of becoming a franchise quarterback to lead the Jets, he has compiled a 12–21 starting record, completing just 57% of his passes for 6,293 yards and 23 touchdowns to 25 interceptions in the last three years.
