Cam Newton Teases Comeback If Falcons Have Interest

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021 but never formally retired. In a recent interview, the former MVP was asked what three teams he’d like to play for should he return to the league, but he instead named just one

“It’s not even three. It’s just, really, one,” Newton said on Good Morning Football. “Me having a family now, it’s always been about family, and I don’t see myself leaving Atlanta. If it’s not Atlanta, I don’t wanna do it.”

The Atlanta Falcons currently have some question marks at the quarterback position after Desmond Ridder found himself benched midway through the season in favor of journeyman Taylor Heinicke. Ridder, a third-round draft pick in 2022, hasn’t panned out as the consistent starter for the Falcons and there’s reason to believe there may be some changes at the position. But Newton, 34, is a long-shot to say the least.

The last time fans saw Newton on the field, he was a shell of his former self. He appeared in eight games in 2021 and lost all five of his starts for the Carolina Panthers. He finished the year with 684 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 54.8% of his passes.

Newton attended high school in Atlanta and currently lives there.
