NFL Fans Roast Roger Goodell Over His Comments About Refs Doing a 'Great Job’

If you watched any NFL games this season, you likely saw something happening way too often—refs being bad at their jobs.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell met with the media in Las Vegas on Monday ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, and he was asked by CBS’s Tracy Wolfson about the state of the referees in his league and what the NFL could do to improve things.

Goodell predictably towed the company line with his answer and commended the officials, saying they’re doing a great job. He mentioned how they are under a lot of scrutiny and that nobody is perfect.
Here are his comments:
Roger Goodell on NFL officiating: "The level of scrutiny is at the highest I've ever seen it... I think our officials do a great job. They are superior. But at the end of the day, no one's perfect... We have to continue to try to get better... Use technology where we can." 🏈🦓 pic.twitter.com/AdPY8u2BPF

Lots of fans didn’t agree with him:
Dude sat up there with a straight face and said they are superior when officiating was some of the worst we’ve ever seen. https://t.co/PftAdQZOzz

They don't do a great job. I get that it's a hard job, but they've completely changed the course of games. I don't know what the solution is, but the NFL needs to find one. https://t.co/JWMGWTnhUQ

“Use technology where we can” while still getting things wrong or are “not reviewable,” and both could easily be fixed with video help… beyond laughable. https://t.co/EqjaKx670x

You’re not using technology where you can when the XFL already displayed that we could be privy to the replay reviews and understand them much better https://t.co/GoN36qU2F3

Until then, good luck w/the spin-doctoring.
Not that they can’t have exceptional cases, but talking about oversight for part-time employees earning 200k while making more in their full time jobs sounds like a club for the privileged—at least perception. https://t.co/9AW3CQgIoe
God I hate Roger Goodell. The absolute worst commissioner in sports https://t.co/ChqiNBG5Lw

Maybe if we didn’t measure first downs by literally vibes and guys holding a chain, things would begin to be better. https://t.co/5JUJ4LLJbZ
