Eliot Wolf to Control Patriots’ 53-Man Roster Following Bill Belichick’s Departure, per Report

Eliot Wolf is expected to take control of the New England Patriots’ personnel department this offseason, working with head coach Jerod Mayo, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. Bill Belichick previously ran the front office, but he is not with the team for the first time in 24 years.

Among Wolf’s responsibility is having final say on the Patriots’ 53-man roster. Matt Groh, who has been with New England since 2011, will run the team’s college scouting department.

Wolf is the son of hall of fame executive Ron Wolf, who spent almost five decades in the NFL and 10 years as the general manager of the Green Bay Packers. The 41-year-old Wolf began his career with the Packers, working for 13 years in various positions, before leaving the team for the Cleveland Browns in 2018.

Eliot Wolf will reportedly have control of the Patriots' 53-man roster this offseason.

Wolf started working as a consultant for the Patriots in 2020, then became the Director of Scouting, a position he has held for the past two years. New England also reportedly hired University of Miami general manager Alonzo Highsmith, who spent five years with Wolf in Green Bay, to the front office on Wednesday.

With Mayo and Wolf in place, the Patriots apparently decided to replace Belichick with two internal hires. The last time someone other than Belichick ran the organization was 1999, when Bobby Grier was the general manager and Pete Carroll was the head coach.
