Tom Brady Reacts to Bill Belichick Not Landing NFL Coaching Job

Following the Washington Commanders’ decision to hire Dan Quinn as their coach, there are no more head coaching vacancies in the NFL. 

With the latest coaching cycle wrapping up, it came as a surprise to many that former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t land a job, especially given eight teams made head coaching hires during the cycle.

Among those who expected Belichick to join a new organization following his departure from the Patriots was the coach’s longtime quarterback, future Hall of Famer Tom Brady.

Addressing the topic during a recent episode of his Let’s Go! podcast, Brady voiced his astonishment over the fact that Belichick was not hired. 

“I don’t know the criteria for hiring coaches. I’ve never been a part of it. I mean, I’m surprised the greatest coach ever doesn’t have a job, absolutely. But I’m surprised by a lot of things in the NFL,” said Brady.

“There’s a lot of things that happen, for one reason or another, that don’t go exactly the way you think they should go,” he added.

Belichick only interviewed with one of the eight teams who made head coaching changes this offseason—the Atlanta Falcons. He met with the Falcons twice before the franchise ultimately opted to hire Raheem Morris, who was formerly the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams under Sean McVay. 

Brady wasn’t the only former Patriot to express his surprise over Belichick not getting hired. Former New England wide receiver Julian Edelman blasted teams that passed on the 71-year-old, saying they were “not about winning.”
