Andy Reid's Head-Scratching Time Management During Super Bowl Frustrated NFL Fans

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid used a potentially costly timeout during the third quarter of Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers after the Chiefs were stopped one yard short of a first down deep inside their own territory.

It appeared that officials gave Kansas City a poor spot following a reception from Travis Kelce, but when Reid called timeout he opted against throwing the challenge flag.

As a result, the Chiefs faced a long third-and-1, from where Isiah Pacheco was unable to pick up a first down. Being so deep in their own territory, Kansas City was forced to punt the ball, meaning their timeout was effectively a total waste, especially considering Reid decided not to challenge the spot.

Reid’s decision-making during that sequence left NFL fans scratching their heads, as they were frustrated and confused as to why he didn’t challenge the spot in order to give Kansas City a better chance at converting on third down.
