Patrick Mahomes’s Congratulatory Text Had Xavier Worthy Pondering Fit With Chiefs

Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy has become a household name seemingly overnight.

The reason? An otherworldly performance in the 40-yard dash on March 2 at the NFL scouting combine—which he finished in 4.21 seconds to break former Washington wide receiver John Ross’s seven-year-old record.

On Friday, Worthy told Tyler Dragon of USA Today that a dignitary reached out to him after he broke the record: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes’s text meant so much to Worthy, in fact, that he cited the Chiefs as a preferred landing spot in April’s draft.

“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy said to Dragon. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had [wide receiver] Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”

With mock drafts generally projecting Worthy to go in the late first round or early second round, a union with the game’s best player seems like a distinct possibility.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs currently hold the final draft pick of the first round (No. 32).
