Eagles Taking Trade Calls on Former Pro Bowl DE Josh Sweat, per Report

The Philadelphia Eagles are receiving trade calls about pass rusher Josh Sweat that could result in Sweat being dealt, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report.

Sweat was an Eagles’ fourth-round pick in 2018, and has found success in Philadelphia over the past six seasons. The 26-year-old has totaled 35 sacks in 88 games, including 11 in 2022. He made a Pro Bowl appearance in ’21.

The Eagles signed Sweat to a three-year, $40 million extension in 2021 that runs through this season, so Sweat is set to hit the open market after 2024. Therefore, the Eagles appear to be open to getting something for Sweat instead of negotiating an extension or letting him leave for nothing.

Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat may be traded this offseason.

Philadelphia will enter next season with a new defensive staff as Vic Fangio takes over as defensive coordinator. The team seems to be open to changing up the defensive depth chart, as pass rusher Haason Reddick is also reportedly a trade possibility this offseason.

With free agency beginning next week, the Eagles have $40 million in cap space to potentially replace Sweat’s spot on the depth chart. Philadelphia’s defense totaled 43 sacks last season, one year after leading the league with 70 sacks.
