Chris Jones, Chiefs Agree to Record Five-Year Contract, per Report

After months of speculation, the Kansas City Chiefs and their defensive star appear to have a deal.

The Chiefs are signing defensive tackle Chris Jones to a five-year contract worth $95 million guaranteed, according to a Saturday night report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jones, 29, won his third Super Bowl with Kansas City this past season.

Per Schefter, the deal stands to make Jones the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history on a per-year basis.

In a Chiefs season rife with intriguing storylines, Jones’s status had flown under the radar a bit outside of Kansas City circles. In search of a long-term deal, Jones held out for Kansas City’s training camp in 2023 and missed the team’s season opener against the Detroit Lions.

Nonetheless, Jones finished with 10 1/2 sacks on an unusually defensive-minded Kansas City team. He was chosen for his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl and named first team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

For Jones, 2023 was the last year of a four-year, $80 million contract he signed in July 2020.
