Jordan Love Understands the Assignment

The bar is high for Green Bay Packers quarterbacks. Jordan Love is embracing the challenge.

It didn't take long for Jordan Love to endear himself to Packers fans. His steady play during the 2023 regular season assuaged any concerns they had about him being a capable starter, and his outstanding performance in the playoffs further solidified his spot as the franchise's leader for the next decade.

With that comes heightened expectations, especially in Green Bay, where quarterbacks are measured in Super Bowls and MVPs.

For his part, Love isn't shying away from that reality.

While appearing on The Pivot Podcast, Love discussed how the Packers' impressive campaign sets the stage for even more aggressive goals in 2024, saying "it’s a perfect time to have a chance to win a Super Bowl this year.”

Listening to Love speak, it's clear he understands the assignment in Green Bay. Winning is all that matters. Nothing else will suffice.

Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers set that foundation. They each led their teams to at least one Super Bowl victory, and had them in contention nearly every year.

Love proved he has the potential to reach that level. He dominated the Cowboys in the Wild Card round and nearly led the Packers to an upset over the top-seeded 49ers a week later. That followed a standout regular season where he threw for over 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.

The Packers built on that momentum with some big moves in free agency. They upgraded their running game by signing Josh Jacobs and also added standout safety Xavier McKinney to bolster their secondary.

Whether Love is capable of rising to the high bar required for a Packers quarterback like his predecessors remains to be seen, but it's clear he knows what the expectations are and he's not afraid to embrace his new reality.
