Brock Purdy Got a Raise From the NFL

Brock Purdy got a nice little performance bonus from the NFL.

Brock Purdy played so well last season that the NFL is giving him a bonus. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback's 2023 salary has nearly doubled thanks to the NFL's performance-based pay distribution. Purdy will receive a bonus of $739,795 after he took his team to the Super Bowl and made the Pro Bowl for the first time.

Purdy is entering the third year of a four-year rookie contract and is set to be a free agent after the 2025 season. He's been an incredible bargain for the San Francisco, having taken the team to the Super Bowl last season. Niners CEO Jed York recently said the team was prepared to pay Purdy what the market says he's worth.

In the meantime, Purdy will have to settle for a piece of the NFL's bonus pie. According to ESPN, the league handed out $393.8 million in performance bonuses for the 2023 season and Purdy got one of the biggest bumps in pay.

Between his base salary and regular signing bonus payment (aren't NFL contracts neat?), Purdy will earn just more than $1 million dollars in 2024. He'll get another small bump in 2025 and have a chance to hit free agency if the 49ers don't work out a new deal before then. Considering his success, that should be a priority.

The 49ers are 17-4 in the regular season with Purdy starting and 4-2 in the postseason. One of those losses came when he was injured early in the 2023 NFC Championship Game against the Eagles and the other came against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Whether you think Purdy is a system quarterback, overrated, or a true star, the results are worth a big payday. It just so happens the league was the first to reward him.
