Steelers GM Says Team Is Open to Selecting a Quarterback in 2024 NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers will start the 2024 season with a brand new quarterback room.

Over the offseason, the Steelers traded, Kenny Pickett, cut Mitchell Trubisky, and allowed Mason Rudolph to leave as a free agent. Pittsburgh picked up Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos and Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears via trade and signed Kyle Allen as a third-stringer. All three players are on one-year deals with the franchise.

While that may seem like a pretty fully quarterback room, Steelers general manager Omar Khan admitted in a press conference on Monday that the team isn't closing any doors on drafting a quarterback this week.

“I’d say it’s not realistic that we'd take a quarterback in Round One, if that’s what you’re asking, no,” Khan said. “There’s some good players and I wouldn’t close the door on anything. If there’s an opportunity to improve that room, we’ll look at it, but like you said, we’ve got three guys who are on one-year deals and we have to be open to it.”

The Steelers hold the No. 20 pick in the first round of the draft, so don't expect the team to draft a quarterback with that selection. It's possible they could do so in later rounds with picks 51, 84, 98, 119, 178 or 195.

The NFL draft begins on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET in Detroit, Mich.
