49ers Trade Brandon Aiyuk to Jaguars and take Brian Thomas Jr. in Latest Mock Draft

This potential trade makes a ton of sense and is one I've suggested the 49ers could pull off.

This is very interesting.

NFL Insider Benjamin Allbright just released his final mock draft of 2024, which projects the 49ers to trade Brandon AIyuk to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for pick No. 17, and to use that pick to take LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

This potential trade makes a ton of sense and is one I've suggested the 49ers could pull off. The Jaguars have a ton of pressure to make the playoffs and maximize the talent of Trevor Lawrence, who has been underwhelming so far in his career. So they would have the motivation to add a premium wide receiver and pay him market value. Sure, they could simply draft one, but their general manager is Trent Baalke, who has drafted just two wide receivers before Round 4 in his career as a general manager, and they were A.J. Jenkins and Laviska Shenault. Two busts.

If Baalke spends a top-20 pick on a wide receiver, I expect he'll want a sure thing such as Aiyuk, because he can't draft wide receivers to save his life.

Thomas Jr. is a 6'3" wide receiver who has 4.33 speed and runs good routes. He has a tremendously high ceiling -- even higher than Aiyuk's.

However, teams apparently have flagged Thomas Jr. for medical concerns, according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler. It's unclear what the concerns are, but Thomas has had a shoulder injury in the past, so it could be related to that, which wouldn't be a huge concern.

Don't be surprised if this exact trade happens on Thursday.
