49ers are Tendering RFA WR Jauan Jennings

Restricted free agent receiver Jauan Jennings is in place to return to the 49ers for the 2024 season barring a team wanting to forfeit draft capital.

It's official.

The San Francisco 49ers are placing a second round tender for a one-year deal with restricted free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings. This practically guarantees that Jennings will be on the team for the 2024 season.

In order for Jennings to go elsewhere, another team will have to be willing to forfeit their second round pick to the 49ers to sign him. And that is assuming the 49ers do not match the competing offer. It would be incredibly baffling for a team to part ways with such a high draft pick for Jennings.

He's a solid player, but not solid where a team should cough up their second round pick. This was a move that was to be expected from the 49ers since it will essentially lock in Jennings for the upcoming season. As a result of the second round tender, the 49ers will be paying Jennings nearly $5 million.

A pretty fair price for a receiver who comes up clutch for the 49ers time and time again. Now, it is a bit odd to be paying the No. 3 receiver who is at best the fifth featured option in the offense. But it's not like it makes a lot of sense for the 49ers to let him walk. He's a clutch receiver who blocks superbly and is someone they trust.

I'd imagine his stats will look better in 2024 now that the 49ers know what they have in Brock Purdy, especially if he gets better. All in all, the 49ers will be happy knowing they have their energetic wide receiver back in the fold for next season.
