Gameday Live Blog Week 17: 49ers vs. Seahawks

The game of the week in the NFL has finally arrived with the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks set to take the stage in primetime. This one is for all the marbles. The winner of tonight's high stakes game will be crowned NFC west champions that will allow them to host a playoff game.

Last time these two teams met in week 10 on Monday night football it went down to the wire. The 49ers will look to avenge that loss tonight in a game that carries the weight of the entire season. San Francisco will also attempt to defeat the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field for the first time since 2011.

49ers Inactives

Seahawks Inactives

1st Quarter

15:00 - 49ers will begin the game on defense. They will get their first look at Russell Wilson since week 10 as well as looks against Marshawn Lynch.

13:59 - Great start defensively for the 49ers. Seattle could not net any positive gain outside of the defensive holding call on the first play of the game. 49ers offense will now take a crack.

7:46 - Robbie Gould connects on the 47-yard field goal. The 49ers drove the field exceptionally well, but a sack on Garoppolo on second down forced the 49ers into a troubling third-and-18 situation. Pass protection was the only issue for the 49ers offensively as it has been the main issue over the last four weeks.

49ers 3 Seahawks 0

4:56 - Another great defensive stand for the 49ers. Russell Wilson is 1-of-5 to start the game. Looks as if Seattle does not trust their running game as they have differed to dropping back with Wilson. Time for the 49ers offense to get another shot at points.

0:24 - Deebo Samuel put a defender on the spin cycle as he takes the end-around handoff for six. 49ers are the clear better team after one quarter. They just look faster and more explosive as opposed to Seattle who looks sluggish.

49ers 10 Seahawks 0

End of quarter

2nd Quarter

11:27 - 49ers defense came to play tonight as DeForest Buckner gets to Wilson on third down for the sack. The defense has been smothering the Seahawks offense on every possession. Seattle just has not figured out how to gash this defense. Lack of a running threat is hurting them as well as poor pass protection. Wilson has looked pressed on some throws. 49ers will head back out on offense.

5:44 - Kyle Shanahan, as always, is calling a methodical game. The 49ers possessed the ball for over six minutes and come away with three points. Seattle's defense is just getting picked apart by Garoppolo. The underrated part about that long drive is it allowed the defense of the 49ers to rest and key in on any other weaknesses of Seattle's offense.

49ers 13 Seahawks 0

2:00 - Seattle starting to find some success offensively. Outside runs and comeback routes seem to be working against the 49ers' defense. 49ers have not blitzed on this drive yet, which was the cause of all their successful pressures. Struggling to get to Wilson with just four so far.

0:45 - Stuffed! 49ers defense stuffs Lynch on fourth-and-1 to keep the Seahawks off of the scoreboard. Seattle's attempt screamed of desperation rather than settle for a field goal. Now the 49ers, with two timeouts, can try to get last minutes point going into the half.

49ers 13 Seahawks 0

3rd Quarter

15:00 - 49ers will open the half with the ball. A touchdown scoring drive will practically put this game out of reach for Seattle.

13:32 - The dream scenario of scoring for the 49ers does not get met. Seattle forces the 49ers to go three-and-out. Seahawks have a chance to get the game manageable after a poor first half showing.

6:00 - Seattle gets on the board with a Wilson touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett. 49ers defense had their chances on plenty of third downs, but the pass rush could not get there. Can the 49ers answer back?

49ers 13 Seahawks 7

3:00 - And just like that, the 49ers answer back with a five play touchdown drive of their own. Raheem Mostert runs it in for the score. They would then go for a 2pt-conversion that would fall short. The two-score gap is back in action for the 49ers. Seattle is starting to run out of time. At some point, their defense needs consecutive defensive holds if they want their offense to lead them back.

49ers 19 Seahawks 7

End of quarter

4th Quarter

9:55 - Seattle has found their rhythm on offense. They drive for 14 plays to setup an easy touchdown run for Marshawn Lynch. 49ers poor third down defense has been the cause of Seattle's success. This game is coming down to how the offense can produce. Big drive upcoming again.

49ers 19 Seahawks 14

5:51 - The 49ers answered the call once again. Another touchdown run by Mostert puts the 49ers back with a two score lead. This game is practically out of reach for Seattle, who has needed long drives to score on the 49ers. Unbelievable execution by this offense. Garoppolo delivered on a clutch third-and-five to Samuel to setup the touchdown run. All the pressure lies with Wilson and the Seahawks offense now.

49ers 26 Seahawks 14

3:36 - The Seahawks do it again. This game has become a tennis match as both offenses go back and forth to score touchdowns. Great composure on that drive for Seattle who had all the pressure on them. D.K. Metcalf scores again as he has been owning Ahkello Witherspoon all game. Now the pressure swings to the 49ers.

49ers 26 Seahawks 21

2:27 - Seattle gets bailed on an unnecessary roughness call on Ben Garland. 49ers go three-and-out, so the pressure lies with their defense to try and get their first stop of the second half. Does not look good for San Francisco.

Final: 49ers 26 Seahawks 21
