The Browns Defense is the First Real Test for the 49ers Offense

In this story:
The 49ers offense aced its first big test of the season on Sunday when it dropped 42 points on the Dallas Cowboys defense. That was impressive.
This week, the 49ers face an even bigger test -- the Cleveland Browns defense. It's the No. 1 defense in the league through five weeks. It has allowed just 125 passing yards per game, which is hard to fathom. No other team has given up fewer than 168 passing yards per game so far this season. For reference, the 49ers' elite defense has allowed 202.6 passing yards per game.
And while the 49ers have given up just 13.6 points per game, the Browns have given up 15. So this game could be low-scoring and close.
The Browns have talent all over their defense, starting on their defensive line. They have Myles Garrett, who might be the best edge rusher in football. He currently has 5.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits. He's a monster. The Browns also have edge rusher Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, who has 2.5 sacks.
In addition, the Browns have two elite cornerbacks -- Denzel Ward, who has allowed a passer rating of 80.6 when targeted this season, and Martin Emerson, who has allowed a passer rating of 49.2. Those two theoretically can match up man to man with Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Not many defenses can do that.
The 49ers will have to play mistake-free football and run the ball more than they pass to win this game. Fortunately for the 49ers, that's what they do.
