Irv Smith Jr. On Joe Burrow: 'He's Been Outstanding'

Smith is the Bengals newest tight end.

CINCINNATI — Irv Smith Jr. loves what he's seen out of Joe Burrow in the passer's young NFL career. The Bengals' new tight end discussed his next NFL home with Geoff Hobson this week.

"Once he got into the NFL, he's been outstanding. The type of person, type of leader he is," Smith told Hobson. "I don't know Joe personally. I talked to him on the phone a little bit, but I feel like I already know him just watching him from afar. He told me he was fired up to have me out there and how much I'll love the culture and if I have any questions, just let him know and he's there for me."

Smith should get welcomed into the offense with open arms as the latest tight end to cycle into Cincinnati.

Injuries have limited him to just 21 games and for the Vikings since 2020, but he averaged 12.2 yards per catch in 2020 (134 QB rating when targeted, 5 touchdowns) and has plenty of potential to tap into.

None of the injuries are chronic as Smith tries to put an up-and-down start to his NFL career in the rearview mirror.
