This would be a huge addition to Cincinnati's defensive front.

In this story:

CINCINNATI — Dolphins star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins is expected to become a free agent later this month according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler

"While Miami's stance is that all options are on the table for defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, several league sources say he probably won't be franchise-tagged," Fowler wrote. "That would put a big-time tackle who had 63 tackles and nine sacks in 2023 on the market. Houston is intriguing here. The Texans have ample cap space, a quarterback early on a rookie deal and a playoff roster. There would be several teams in the mix, though. The Browns are always good for a splash or two, for instance. Would they strengthen an already stout defense with the versatile DT?"

The Bengals should absolutely kick the tires on a dominant defensive tackle like Wilkins. It will cost them, but they have to consider making a push to add a 28-year-old former first rounder that is capable of being a force in the middle of Lou Anarumo's defense.

It's worth noting that Bengals defensive line coach Marion Hobby coached Wilkins for two seasons at Clemson. DJ Reader was teammates with Wilkins for one year. Could the Bengals re-sign Reader, add Wilkins and give themselves a dominant duo in the trenches?

With Justin Madubuike expected to be franchise tagged and all signs pointing toward Chris Jones re-signing with the Chiefs, Wilkins could be the highest-paid defensive tackle in this class.

The Bengals don't usually swim in those waters—and they could target multiple veterans, including Grover Stewart and Sheldon Rankins, but adding Wilkins would be a game changer. They have cap space to do it.

Would they be willing to give him guaranteed money in year two or three? That's a big question when discussing the possibility of the Bengals signing Wilkins.

The Dolphins have until Tuesday, March 5 to use the franchise tag on the former first round pick.
