Source: Bills SCOOP on Hire of WR Coach Adam Henry; Formula to Sign Odell Beckham?
It has been reported that the Buffalo Bills have hired Adam Henry to be the team's next receivers coach. But an hour has passed since that initial news flash, and one thing hasn't happened: A source tells us that the "agreement is not yet official.''
Working on the assumption that this all works out ...
Henry, who has NFL coaching experience with five different teams, was most recently the co-offensive coordinator and receivers at the University of Indiana this past season. Before that, he was the receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and 2021.
The Bills were in the market for a new receivers coach after Chad Hall took the same role with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But the addition of Henry could prove more valuable with time.
Henry was the passing game coordinator and receivers coach with the LSU Tigers from 2012 through 2014, and during that time, he built a strong relationship with star receiver and three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport pointed this out once the news of Wednesday's hiring broke.
"That’s interesting. Adam Henry is — besides being a very good coach — close with Odell Beckham Jr.," he said.
One of the biggest topics of improvement for Buffalo this offseason has been centered around depth at receiver behind Stefon Diggs. No. 2 pass-catcher Gabe Davis is set to be a free agent next offseason and the talent on the depth chart falls off a bit after him.
The Bills were one of the handful of teams speculated to make a run at signing OBJ during the season as he recovered from a torn ACL, but all the hype fell off a cliff as the regular season came to a close, with Beckham Jr. remaining unsigned once the playoffs began.
But with his college receivers coach now slated (hopefully) with a Buffalo team that was in the signing sweepstakes, the Bills - both due to need and dynamic - could find themselves with the formula to land Beckham Jr. following a lengthy stay in free agency.
