Bills Draft Bijan Robinson? Why it Makes Sense After NFL Combine

Running back seems like one of the missing pieces for the Buffalo Bills. And with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, they could meet offseason projections and select Bijan Robinson to fill the need.

The offensive linemen and running backs took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday to wrap up the final day of the NFL Scouting Combine. The Buffalo Bills were likely watching closely as both could be considered positions of need this in the draft.

While the Bills taking an offensive lineman with their No. 27 overall pick is possible, especially if they want to select a guard, it seems more likely that they could choose to draft a running back given the team's lack of backfield production in recent years.

Texas Longhorns star Bijan Robinson is considered the best running back in the class and could be available by the time the Bills are on the clock. There's been countless mock drafts that have backed this possibility up, projecting Robinson to Buffalo at No. 27.

And after an impressive career on the Forty Acres as a Longhorn, rushing for 1,000 yards in each of his final two seasons in Austin and winning the 2022 Doak Walker Award as the best running back in the nation, Robinson added to his résumé with a strong showing at the combine on Sunday.

Robinson measured in at 5-11, 215 pounds, and ran an official 4.46 40-yard dash time, which makes him the sixth-fastest among running backs.

Despite being labeled as a top-10 talent overall, the degradation of the running back position has made it unclear where Robinson will hear his name called.

But we do know is that the Bills are certainly interested enough, as they're one of many teams have met with the former Longhorn at the combine.

Robinson would give the Bills a potential 1,000-yard running back, something they haven't had since Le'Sean McCoy did it in 2016 and 2017, and help complete an offense that needs more play-makers around Josh Allen.

Robinson isn't just your prototypical bell-cow back either, as he proved to be a weapon out of the backfield as a receiver. He finished his career with 805 yards and eight touchdowns on 60 receptions.

Drafting a rookie like Robinson would make sense on many levels, especially when comparing his contract to that of a veteran like signing Saquon Barkley in free agency.

If Robinson lives up to the often-used professional comparison, he could be just as good if not better than Barkley.
