Bills Among Best in QB Stability Rankings Thanks to Josh Allen

Josh Allen, Tyrod Taylor, EJ Manuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Thad Lewis are the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterbacks in the last decade.

The NFL is a quarterback-driven league and it's no secret that the best teams tend to be led by the best quarterbacks. Just look at Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes for example.

Even better for a franchise is to have long-term stability under center, and the Buffalo Bills are currently a team with desired standards in that regard ... though it hasn't always been that way.

The Bills are tied as the NFL's 9th-best team in quarterback turnover rankings over the last decade, ranks CBS Sports.

The Bills have had five starting quarterbacks since the start of the 2013 season, which was tied for the fourth-fewest among NFL teams in that span. To qualify for this list, a quarterback had to start at least four games in a season for a team. Josh Allen, Tyrod Taylor, EJ Manuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Thad Lewis are the starting five.

Allen, Buffalo's current starter, has played 77 games for the Bills. In terms of Buffalo's all-time career passing yards, Allen (18,397) ranks third behind Jim Kelly (35,467) and Joe Ferguson (27,590.) He's currently on a six-year contract worth up to $258 million with $150 million guaranteed, signed in August of 2021.

Last season, Allen accumulated his third straight season with over 4,000 passing yards, 35 or more passing touchdowns, and six or more rushing touchdowns while leading Buffalo to its third consecutive AFC East division title. Though the Bills' postseason run was halted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round, hopes are high for this season.

Leading the league in quarterback stability is the Chiefs with only two starting quarterbacks in 10 seasons (Mahomes, Alex Smith). The rreigning Super Bowl Champions Chiefs are favorites to again win the Lombardi Trophy with Mahomes on a 10-year lucrative contract.

Other teams with the most stable rankings have been buoyed by longtime franchise quarterbacks, like Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Eli Manning (Giants), Derek Carr (Raiders) and Philip Rivers (Chargers).

All in all, Buffalo has got it pretty good when it comes to security and dependability at quarterback.
