The Buffalo Bills have fallen short of making a push to the Super Bowl these past few seasons. However, star quarterback Josh Allen, 27, has plenty of time in his prime, and the Bills must find a way to extend the championship window to match his timeline.

While some might argue the Bills lost too much ahead of this season, they still have their core key players despite that the defense is set to look different without linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

So who are these core players?

Pro Football Focus listed its top three key players for each NFL team to build around. For the Bills, they listed Allen, Stefon Diggs and Greg Rousseau.

Of course, the driver of the offense is Allen, so he's going to have to be on the list. Adding Diggs, Allen's counterpart also makes sense. The two have proved to be quite the pairing over the past few seasons.

Allen has had double-digit wins in every season he's played outside of his rookie year. Diggs has played a big part in that, too, as he hasn't been on the team for anything worse than a 13-win season.

If the offense had to start completely fresh, but Allen and Diggs were able to be retained, the team would still find way to be in decent shape, as the two have two skillsets that play off each other and is enough to run an offense.

Of course, the weird Diggs conundrum this offseason might have a weird wrinkle come regular season, but the two are good enough to move past it and play football as usual.

The unique pick of the three was Rousseau. The defense has been good since the Bills rose to contenders. Elite might even be a better word for what they've been. Coach Sean McDermott will be play calling on that side of the field, so the defense will look different this year. Rousseau will have to play a key role in the defense retaining its strength.

With the loss of Edmunds and the defense having a new look, Rousseau's impact will be that much more needed. He's a young edge rusher, too, as there's a reason he's a player the Bills should look to build around.
