Bills Draft Penn State WR Parker Washington in Mock; Wrong Move?

The Buffalo Bills have multiple routes they could take late in the first round this April, but one could argue that wide receiver is not one of them.

Despite postseason disappointment that has lingered for the past few years, the Buffalo Bills have proven they possess one of the league's most explosive offenses.

With big-time names like quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs leading the way while tight end Dawson Knox and receiver Gabe Davis,

Even though this group has yet to get over the hump, it’s an offensive unit that is, at least on paper, capable of winning a Super Bowl.

But in a recent mock draft from CBS Sports, the Bills aim for yet another receiver late in the first round, as the site has Buffalo selecting Penn State Nittany Lions receiver Parker Washington at No. 29 overall.

While Washington is certainly talented and has been projected as a late first-rounder, Buffalo's pick in this particular mock may not be the best approach the team could take late in the first round given the current personnel.

Why crowd a receivers room that already features the aforementioned Diggs and Davis? The Bills also have budding receiver Khalil Shakir, who showed promising flashes during his rookie year this past season after the Bills selected him in the fifth round last April.

Passing on Washington late in the first round hardly has anything to do with talent. The Bills would just be better off getting some young guns on defense due to the potential departures of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and safety Jordan Poyer.

Poyer was a part of a banged-up Bills secondary that saw cornerback Tre’Davious White take some time to catch his footing after coming back from a torn ACL while safety Micah Hyde dealt with a neck injury that sidelined him for nearly the entire season.

Safe to say with this current roster, the defense isn’t getting younger while health seems hard to come by.

Washington finished the season with some respectable numbers, as he posted 46 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games. But this isn’t enough to give the Bills any reason to focus on adding another pass-catcher to the mix.
