Bills Set for More 'Heartache' Amid Upcoming Roster Moves, Says Brandon Beane
While it can be said about all 32 teams, it's no secret that it's a strictly business-first mentality for the Buffalo Bills headed into the upcoming season.
It's anyone's guess how long Buffalo's championship window will remain open, making it a now-or-never approach for the Bills to finally capture their first-ever Super Bowl title. General manager Brandon Beane has clearly shown this is the case, as evidenced by his recent collection of moves.
The players themselves, including newly-signed linebacker Leonard Floyd, realize this as well. He admitted that he could've gone elsewhere for more money, but instead opted to join the Bills and potentially capture his second ring.
But while there's the obvious excitement surrounding new signings like Floyd, Beane recently said that the often unavoidable and tough aspects of running a business could be on the horizon for Buffalo.
“Sometimes there’s moves you got to make," Beane said. "It’ll cause us a little heartache at the 53. How we have to do things, whether it’s push some money down the line or release a player, trade a player that has value, you know, we’ll consider all that, especially at positions that we feel we’re deeper.”
The Bills have made a flurry of signings this offseason, adding some talent that is well-regarded in the NFL. Guys like defensive tackle Poona Ford, cornerback Cameron Dantzler and offensive tackle Brandon Shell have signed recently, while Super Bowl champs like defensive end Shane Ray and linebacker Travin Howard have arrived as well.
However, in order to make room, Buffalo has also had to part ways with roster-bubble players like defensive tackle Brandin Bryant, receiver Braydon Johnson, cornerback Kyler McMichael and running back Isaiah Bowser, to name a few.
The inevitable heartbreak will be felt by both Beane and the players that could be cut as the season gets closer, but that's the price of doing business when a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal.
